Lake Hiawatha School Principal

From the Principal's Desk

Lake Hiawatha School is a haven for imagination, exploration, and discovery. This school year promises great academic, emotional, and social growth for our students.  I encourage families to help foster this growth and become active participants in your children's education.  Ask them about their day at school. Review assignments with them.  Let them know how much importance you place on their education.  Also, strive to maintain open lines of communication between home and school.  It is important for parents and teachers to work as partners. Your support of this partnership will help the youngsters reach their true potential. Working together, we will create a positive, productive and enriching school year.

We utilize a "Video Identification System" on our main entrance door during the school day.  Please press the button and identify yourself in order to request access into the building.  All visitors must immediately proceed to the office upon entering the building.  You must sign in and obtain a visitor's pass. Do not proceed directly to any classroom or school area.  If a school employee questions you, please understand that this policy protects our children.

Our building officially closes at 4:00 PM.  Please do not return to school to collect forgotten items.  It's important for our children to learn to be responsible.  Unless you are attending an evening activity, you will not be admitted to the building, nor permitted in the classrooms.

Thank you for your cooperation.

We take the safety and security of our students and staff very seriously at Lake Hiawatha School.  To help us promote a safe environment, we conduct a variety of safety drills.

Fire drills and safety drills are held on a monthly basis.  The teachers discuss the procedures and importance of the drills with the students.  They practice with the children as a matter of routine.  Our goal is to help our students feel secure in case of an emergency.  The drills give them a better understanding of what is expected of them and what to do in case of an emergency situation.

Throughout the school year, many important notices and forms are posted on "Digital Backpack" and/or are sent home with the students.  It is essential for parents and students to review all backpack contents every evening. Please review "Digital Backpack" on a weekly basis. Return any forms to school as soon as possible.

Our school calendar and newsletter, the "Lake Hiawatha Ledger" will be published on a monthly basis.  The calendar and newsletter provide students and parents with important information. Please post your calendars at home to remind you about all of our  special events!!
