Trimester 1

📚 Reading:  We are preparing for a second grade reading growth spurt! We launched Daily 5 rotations to strengthen our reading. Students will enjoy Word Work, Read to Self, Read to Someone, Work on Writing, and Listen to Reading. Our second unit of study will help us become experts at reading nonfiction! Students will use RAZ Kids to access ebooks at home and at school. 

✏️ Writing: Students will be improving narrative writing in our first unit of Writers Workshop.  Then, we will explore a how-to guide for writing nonfiction!

📏 Math:  Second graders begin the year with number sense and place value.  We will be reviewing number concepts, addition, subtraction, and problem solving! Students should practice math fact fluency by visiting Reflex and earning at least three green lights per week!

🔍 Science:  We begin the year by discussing Engineering/Design Thinking skills. This will help build a foundation as we investigate Pebbles, Sand, and Silt.

🌎 Social Studies: During our first unit of social studies, students will be learning about and identifying the three different types of communities. We will also talk about different community helpers.
