We are looking forward to a wonderful year of growth and success in third grade!
Math: We will start the year off with a chapter on representing and interpreting data. Remember that practicing math facts daily will help build and sustain fluency throughout the year.
Reading/Writing: We will be building a reading life this year by using reading workshop. We will start by reading fiction books. In writing workshop we will be writing personal narratives and infusing grammar and spelling skills as we write. Please be sure your child reads every night. Take some time to ask your child questions as they read to help strengthen their comprehension skills. They can even keep a writing journal at home to write about their reading and their daily activities!
Science: We will be doing many fun, hands on STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) projects and experiments throughout the year based on our FOSS kits. The year will start with a unit on Engineering!
Social Studies: We have a lot to explore this year in our Social Studies curriculum and will start by examining communities.
Health: We will take daily brain breaks, mindful minutes, and do stretching exercises to keep us healthy! We are learning to be positive role models and upstanders by supporting our peaceful classroom environment.
